My Life With The Movie Star Meaghan Hoffmann 9781461185864 Books

I really really wanted to like this book because I love the 'normal person falls in love with a celebrity' story line but I couldn't get past page 40 and I struggled to even get that far.

The main character is just... boring. I don't know if it's the 1st person writing style but she is someone I'd probably want to slap if I knew her in real life. She is just not interesting and I couldn't see any reason why the male character even showed any interest - she is just silly. Also, if I am going to pay for a book, I expect to not see any typos because they jump out at me and distract me from getting sucked into the story and I find that annoying. There were several typos in the pages that I read and I can't help but think how those got past whoever edited this book.

I've read fanfiction that was much better written and much more interesting than this story. If the author reads this review, I apologize but I pretty much feel like I wasted my money downloading this book to my kindle. I would suggest making your main character someone that is likeable and not just describing her travel details and her wardrobe. She is boring, her job is boring and I just could not bring myself to care enough about either character to continue the story.

My Life With The Movie Star Meaghan Hoffmann 9781461185864 Books Reviews

Let me cut to the chase and point out that as a 38 year old married father of two, I'm probably not in Ms. Hoffmann's demo.
I'm the author of the Desolate series and Windigo Soul, all sci-fi/horror/thriller books. That's the genre I'm into and what I usually read, so I'm pretty sure this book wasn't written for the likes of me.

However, I happen to live in the little city this book features and I'm always ready to support my fellow indie authors. Also, my wife is always telling me I need to get in touch with my feminine side.

The story moves nicely and sweeps the reader away to a world where dreamy Hollywood stars can fall in love with simple small town girls. Even though this isn't exactly my fantasy, I can definitely see the appeal.

This is an honest book and I can appreciate the balance of young adult appeal mixed with adult situations. Even though there is zero bad language and no descriptive love scenes, there is a fair amount of drinking and it's clear people are getting busy (no spoilers in this review!). I think Ms. Hoffmann found just the right balance. Personally, I wouldn't have a problem with a middle school aged girl reading this. I have a feeling if a publisher ever gets a hold of this manuscript, they would either recommend that it gets cleaned up to make it rated G all the way for the `tweens, OR really smut it up for the "50 Shades" crowd. Right now, it's sort of hovering over both markets and I think it works.

I'm only giving it three stars for two reasons

I think the dialogue needs a lot of work. All of the conversations lack contractions and if people really talked like it was written, they would all sound like robots. And for the most part, almost all the characters spoke in the exact same manner. Nobody seemed to have their own voice.

I also noticed some errors, especially towards the end. For example, one of the chapters is labeled CHapter, I noticed a "your" instead of "you're" and a cop is referred to as "Office Miller" instead of "Officer Miller."

Overall, this is a very solid start from a talented writer. I hope to see a lot more books from her over the years. If Ms. Hoffmann works on her dialogue, gets some professional editing, and maybe hone in on a more specific market, I know she'll be a big success. Team Scott!
Congratulations to Meaghan Hoffmann on her debut novel! If this, her first novel, is any indication of the novels to come from this talented author, sign me up as a fan! I enjoyed the premise...small town girl meets major Hollywood movie star, sparks fly, love blooms, conflict tears them apart...will they live happily after after? The novel is an enjoyable read, and the characters are engaging. I especially liked the attention to detail incorporated into every scene. Being a writer myself, I find description very hard to write, and am in awe as to how well and seamlessly, Ms. Hoffmann weaves it throughout ever chapter.
I would have loved to given this novel the full five star rating, but typos and grammar issues were slightly distracting. Also, I would have liked to have seen a bit more character building on the part of the hero. That said, and given that this is Meaghan's first novel, and it is, as a whole, pretty darn great, I'll definitely be in line to buy her next book! Brava!
The story line was alright, but I didn't like the author's style at all. The book was written in first person but the sentence structure was so proper that it was hard to imagine that these were actually the main girl's thoughts. It completely disrupted the flow of the novel. It made it seem very choppy and unrealistic. She didn't even use contractions when she spoke. Who does that?

As for the plot - honestly, I got so bogged down in the robotic dialogue that I just skipped to the end of the book. And it ended up exactly as I would've predicted. I'm not going to spoil it for you so that's all I'll say.

My recommendation download the free preview and if you can overlook the writing style, buy it.
This book had such a good premise but just did not give enough detail. Abby finds herself at a convention for her work only to run into Grayson Edwards famed popular actor. Of course Abby being more engaged with her work does not following the entertainment scene and has no idea who Grayson is at the time of their first meeting. Of course Grayson falls for Abby and her lack of interest in stardom. They make an attempt at a long distant relationship only to have it foiled by a bitter ex friend of Abby's who set up false blog page in Abby's name making it look like she was using Grayson just for the publicity. Abby then doubts Grayson true feeling for her and we don't even get to hear how Grayson is feeling during this time. This book had a good story line, but after reading Love Unscripted I was craving a book with more detail and depth. The characters were interesting but just not enough of Abby and Grayson together to even really believe they were sooo in love. For the price it's a fun quick read, just wish there was more of it.
