Like other reviewers I would have enjoyed more character development, but I did not debit my rating because of Lord Sidley's marvelously witty repartee as well as the author's accurate portrayal of the period's language, mores, history and costume. I am so pleased to have discovered a worthy successor to Georgette Heyer.

Me. Ferguson writes elegantly. Her stories delight with witty dialogue and engaging characters. I have read 4 of her books this week and will read the fifth as soon as possible. I hope she is writing more!
Poor Lord Sidley. He's going to die soon, don't you know. Had serious wounds during the war, don't you know. Right. Our poor heroine is devastated because Lord Sidley is soon to be no more. Even though she is engaged to another man, she dotes on poor Sidley-and that is exactly what Lord Sidley wants. This is a very well written tale of a man determined to get his girl, no matter what he has to do.
This is a lovely story of a relationship between a lord and a young woman artist that starts as an acquaintance and graduates into love. The characters are interesting and likable. There is intrigue, betrayal, emotional drama, gossip, misunderstanding and a gradual simmering romance. At times, the language is daunting. It is entertaining and a good read.
The story was well written and the storyline well defined as well as allowing us to experience her characters many emotions. The author drew the reader in and kept our throughout the story. The story had intrigue, suspense, discoveries, betrayal, love, and a happily ever after.
Ferguson has a great style, and while she shows you that the period is Regency, she doesn't bash you over the head with it. There is much smart and witty repartee. The hero is one of the most enchanting I have come across in regency fiction. In contrast, the heroine was something of a dry stick, especially for an artist. She also lacked the courage to open herself up to him, and protested far too long. Anyway, it is still much better than most Regencies, and recommended... shame about the heroine though.
My first book by Sherry Lynn Ferguson and am totally smitten . . . and have to admit I compare this genre to Georgette Heyer so was very pleased to find this writer by chance. Loved the plot, the characters and their interaction. There was angst, fun, interesting and funny personalities and interaction and a wonderfully happy ending - almost too soon - I was really enjoying it. It is clean reading, nothing to make you blush - if that is of concern. Based on this one, I just purchased all the others by Sherry and hope she has something new coming out soon!
So glad to have discovered Sherry Lynn Ferguson! She is a fun author. I love how all of her books are connected, and although I understand this is a marketing hook, it has been fun reading what I can get my hands on! Perfect Regency Romance with great writing and detail. For me it is more period because it is clean and free of any explicitness as well.
